About the Author
Greg J. Neimeyer, Ph.D. is professor of psychology in the Department of Psychology at the University of Florida in Gainesville. Dr. Neimeyer has served as Graduate Coordinator in the Department, and also as the Director of Training in its APA-approved doctoral program in counseling psychology. He has served as the Chair of the Executive Board of the Council of Counseling Psychology Training Programs in the United States, and has been recognized by the American Psychological as the recipient of its award for Outstanding Achievement in Career and Personality Research. Much of his work focuses on aspects of postmodern psychology and psychotherapy. Elected as a Fellow of the American Psychological Association, Dr. Neimeyer has also been recognized for his outstanding teaching by Psi Chi, the University of Florida, and by the Golden Key National Honor Society, and has been inducted into the Academy of Distinguished Teaching Scholars. As a recipient of the University of Florida Outstanding Mentoring Award, he continues to teach and train undergraduate and graduate students in psychology. He also maintains an active clinical practice through his affiliation with the Department of Community Health and Family Medicine at the University of Florida, where he conducts research and workshops on graduate school preparation.

I am an undergraduate psychology major interested in graduate school and I honestly felt so lost with the complex process that graduate school entails. I really wanted to make sure I was doing everything I could to maximize my chances of getting in, but I did not know how. The Virtual Advisor was definitely the answer to all of my fears and anxieties. The Virtual Advisor contains numerous videos on graduate school topics that I could access anywhere I have internet. The first part of the Advisor involves exploring careers in psychology. This really helped me narrow my interests and discover what kind of psychologist I wanted to be. They have information on every type of program, whether you are interested in clinical, counseling, Ph.D, masters, or Psy.D. They also had helpful videos on programs like social psychology and industrial organizational. They have helpful excess advisement which involves assessments that help you realize where your interests lie and what program would best suit you. The next part of the Advisor suggested what you could do inside and outside the classroom to maximize your chances of getting in to the graduate program of your choice. Then they explained how to present your best self to graduate school by explaining how to write you vita, your personal statement, and how to choose the right people to write your letters of recommendation. Most importantly, they discussed strategies for interviewing and what to say and not to say in your interview. I would definitely recommend for all who are interested in graduate school for any level and program in psychology to invest in this program. The videos really present to you a step by step process on how to maximize your chances. I felt like I finally had the inside scoop to graduate school in psychology, which is often one of the hardest graduate programs to gain admission to. The Virtual Advisor is a helpful and well-organized guide for the sometimes daunting and rather disorganized process of graduate school admissions. Dr. Neimeyer's video lectures and the companion document provide an in-depth look at the process of admissions into psychology programs by answering questions about exploring the different career paths in psychology, the preparations that should be taken before applying, the application itself, and useful tips on the interview process. Each section within the Virtual Advisor contains additional content which helps to reinforce what was learned through short quizzes and also contains helpful documents to help organize your thoughts and goals each step of the way.
In addition to the video series, The Virtual Advisor comes with the pocket companion which provides additional information and is particularly useful for reading in-between classes. The pocket companion also has a step by step guide to building a C.V. and tips for writing personal statements for graduate school applications which I found particularly useful.
Overall, the Virtual Advisor is definitely worth the price. It has helped me to organize my options and goals and has greatly increased my confidence that I will be able to be admitted into the graduate school of my choice.

What I found most beneficial was how it helped you learn about the application and interview process of graduate school. Before trying out the course, I was aware of steps and components needed for the graduate admissions process. After reviewing the course, it helped me understand, in great detail, how to make yourself a strong applicant. This course helps you prepare by breaking down all the components of the admissions process and giving effective strategies on how to excel in each aspect. This includes help on creating a strong CV, how to write an attention grabbing personal statement, selecting your letters of recommendations, preparation for interviews, etc. This course does this by providing highly informative videos along with tools, examples and resources to help you step-by-step on the admissions process. I highly recommend this course for anyone who needs help exploring their options in the field of psychology, how to prepare themselves for careers after college and who wants to become a strong, competitive candidate for graduate school!
