Review
"The book is not only a contribution to the academic community for students in psychology,
sociology, criminal justice, and correctional counseling at any level, it will also have practical use for correctional practitioners at the entry level, as well as for those with more experience. For the practitioner, it will serve as a quick-reference guide and resource highlighting current correctional mental problems and workable solutions in American correctional settings. As an add-on benefit, the book provides correctional administrators with a wide selection of readings to help them broaden their understanding of current correctional mental health practice." (Dr. Robert Smith 2011-02-23)

"Fagan and Ax provide a compelling clinical guide for correctional mental health treatment based on a biopsychosocial or intersystemic theory that is grounded in research and clinical practice. The book draws on the wealth of clinical and administrative experiences of the editors and contributors." (Dr. Robert Smith 2011-02-23)

"The book’s editors and contributors represent an established and distinguished group, not only of
correctional mental health professionals and administrators from federal, state, and local levels, but academics and others in the field who have provided significant and distinguished scholarly contributions." (Dr. Robert Smith 2011-02-23)

"Within 15 minutes of opening Correctional Mental Health: From Theory to Best Practice, I found that I had in my hands not only an indispensible basic text for the current era of correctional professionals but also one that represents a quantum leap in the consolidation of essential correctional knowledge."

(Dr. J. Tyler Carpenter PsycCRITIQUES 2011-08-02)

Fabulous book, fabulous seller
By Hostess M
The book arrived early and in perfect condition. I use the book for professional development with teachers and they love the book, as do I. The probes get to the misconceptions we see in classrooms, and they follow-up probes are great for retests. The best part if the discussion of the probe itself, including looking at student work and information on research for further understanding.

Not Good
By P Wheatley
When I ordered the book, I expected a book that was used with slight wear and tear to it. When I received the book, which I did get in a timely manner, it had more than just a little wear and tear on the edges. The plastic was coming off the book. THere were numerous pages with highlighting and writing on them. I would have never purchased a book that had either highlighting or writing in it especially for the price that I paid for it. I was completely dissatisfied with the purchase.

A finding for non-professional statisticians
By Dragos
It is a very useful book both for statisticians, scientists and other professionals, as well as for students and people who use statistics from time to time only. One of its major advantages is that it is written in an understandable language without many formulas. I marked it with 4 stars only because of the price: in my view it is too expensive for a Kindle edition.

Review
"An extremely useful resource for new and experienced mathematics coaches and the individuals responsible for their professional development and ongoing support. It provides a detailed analysis of mathematics coaching along with a comprehensive model to guide coaches as they do their work. The model goes beyond simply describing the various components of coaching work; it provides a developmental, sequential process for engaging in mathematics coaching and situates the work of coaching in the larger district context." (Diane J. Briars, Mathematics Consultant 2009-03-03)

"For those who work directly with classroom teachers, the authors provide a commonsense approach to support and improve teaching and learning. Easily read, this book lays out a simple plan for success as a mathematics coach and should be in the library of all who work with mathematics teachers." (Emily S. Rash, Mathematics Specialist 2009-01-23)

"An effective coaching model can be a most valuable educational resource when it is used to enhance instructional goals, improve pedagogical practices, and improve student outcomes." (Lucille Sekara, Elementary Principal 2009-01-28)

"A welcome resource for the many mathematics coaches who are looking for support in a challenging, often vaguely defined role. From a big picture view of the systems within which math coaches work, to advice about potential pitfalls, to guidance on facilitating change, the book takes on a wide range of topics to help math coaches understand the scope of their work and serve as leaders in whatever form their jobs may take." (Cathy Seeley, Senior Fellow, Charles A. Dana Center, The University of Texas at Austin 2009-02-25)

"The authors show how instructional coaches can be respectful of the teacher's professional status yet instrumental in providing the necessary support that changes teaching practice to yield positive student results. The authors have cracked the code for mathematics coaching by giving clear, concise guidance using self-reflective techniques as well as knowledge of content and teaching experience that translates into expert coaching and meets the diverse needs of classroom teachers." (Miriam E. Melian, Coordinator of Bilingual/ESL Programs 2009-02-27)

"Useful for those getting started and those refining their coaching practice." (Nicole Miller 2011-10-18)

Good Guide
By chatty
Good resource for Coaches, but after 7 years of coaching it did not add much enlightenment. I am glad I purchased it because it affirmed much of what I was already doing and gave a few ways to approach reluctant teachers that were helpful. I share it with beginning coaches to save them from some of the pitfalls of being an over-enthusiastic coach who fails to appreciate what the teachers have already done and how to use teacher leaders to pave the way for changes.

Social Problems: Community, Policy, and Social ActionFrom Brand: SAGE Publications, Inc

With an engaging writing style that has made it a popular choice at both 2 and 4-year schools, the Second Edition of Anna Leon-Guerrero’s Social Problems textbook humanizes social problems and addresses their consequences while emphasizing community awareness and action. The text focuses on inequalities, examining how race and ethnicity, gender, social class, sexual orientation, and age determine our life chances. Each chapter includes a discussion of relevant social policies or programs and highlights how individuals or groups have made a difference in their communities. Although the book looks primarily at the United States, global perspectives are interwoven where appropriate. Pedagogical features and a companion study site provide a platform for discussion that encourages critical thinking about the problems presented.

OK I guess
By Maritsa
This is a text book that covers the four sociological perspective of each social problem issue like homelessness, enviroment, etc. It was interesting to know that there are many perspectives on issues and what they have to say about why social problems exist. Nothing that couldn't be summerized into a five page book though.

Great!

The book was in great condition. There was some highlighting and pen marks, but only very few and that is to be expected with a used book! Shipping was immediate and arrived much sooner than I expected! I was completely satisfied with this purchase and would reccomend this seller!
