About the Author
Diane Yendol-Hoppey is currently Professor of Education and Director of the Benedum Collaborative at West Virginia University. Prior to her appointment at West Virginia University, she served as the Coordinator of the Elementary Apprenticeship, Director of the Northeast Florida Teachers’ Network Leadership Institute and evaluator of numerous district, state, and national professional development efforts at University of Florida. Before beginning her work in higher education, Diane spent 13 years as an elementary school teacher in Pennsylvania and Maryland. She holds a PhD in Curriculum and Instruction from The Pennsylvania State University. Diane’s current work focuses on developing school-university partnerships committed to cultivating an inquiry stance and a commitment to teacher leadership. Diane received the AERA Division K Early Career Research Award for her ongoing commitment to researching innovative approaches to professional development. She has authored articles in professional journals focusing on creating communities of inquiry, teacher leadership, mentoring, and school-university collaboration, as well as three books with Nancy Dana. Nancy Fichtman Dana is currently a professor of education and the director of the Center for School Improvement at the University of Florida. Under her direction, the Center promotes and supports practitioner inquiry (action research) as a core mechanism for school improvement in schools throughout the state. She began her career in education as an elementary school teacher in Hannibal Central Schools, New York, and has worked closely with teachers and administrators on action research, building professional learning communities, and school-university collaborations in Florida and Pennsylvania since 1990. She has authored numerous articles in professional journals focused on teacher inquiry, as well as a best-selling book (with Diane Yendol-Hoppey) on the action research process from Corwin Press (The Reflective Educator’s Guide to Classroom Research).
