About the Author
Scott Menard is a Professor of Criminal Justice at Sam Houston State University and a research associate in the Institute of Behavioral Science at the University of Colorado, Boulder. He received his A.B. at Cornell University and his Ph.D. at the University of Colorado, Boulder, both in Sociology. His interests include quantitative methods and statistics, life course criminology, substance abuse, and criminal victimization. His publications include Longitudinal Research (second edition Sage 2002), Applied Logistic Regression Analysis (second edition Sage 2002), Good Kids from Bad Neighborhoods (Cambridge University Press 2006, with Delbert S. Elliott, Bruce Rankin, Amanda Elliott, William Julius Wilson, and David Huizinga), Youth Gangs (Charles C. Thomas 2006, with Robert J. Franzese and Herbert C. Covey), and the Handbook of Longitudinal Research (Elsevier 2008), as well as other books and journal articles in the areas of criminology, delinquency, population studies, and statistics.

Readable...integrative...comprehensive

This is an excellent expository statistical text (one that does not ignore but keeps notation to a minimum.) It also provides a comprehensive explanation of the relationship (similarities and differences) among OLS, log-linear analysis, logit analysis, and logistic regression. Prof. Menard's book is one of -- if not THE -- best texts on these statistical techniques that I have read.

About the Author
Kenneth A. Kiewra is an expert on learning strategies, homework, and study methods. A professor of educational psycholgy at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, he presents regulary at AERA and other national confereces, in addition to working with local schools. Kiewra is the author of two textbooks with Prentice Hall and Allyn & Bacon, as well as dozens of journal articles.  His research interests include: learning strategies, knowledge representation, strategies for note-taking and studying, cognitive factors related to writing ability, and the development of talent and expertise.

About the Author

M. C. (Millie) Gore is Hardin Distinguished Professor in the Special Education Program of the Department of Counseling, Kinesiology, and Special Education at the Gordon T. and Ellen West College of Education at Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, Texas. She is the author or coauthor of several books, including the Corwin title (with John F. Dowd) Taming the Time Stealers: Tricks of the Trade From Organized Teachers. Gore received undergraduate and master’s degrees from Eastern New Mexico University and a doctorate from the University of Arkansas.

About the Author

Douglas Llewellyn teaches science education courses at St. John Fisher College in Rochester, NY. Previously, he was the K-12 Director of Science at the Rochester City School District, a secondary school principal, and a middle school science teacher. Llewellyn is a frequent speaker at state and national conferences on inquiry- and argument-based teaching, constructivist learning, and science leadership.

Helpful, but not revolutionary

This was a quick read, and one that was very helpful as a review of differentiation techniques. There was nothing new, really, that I pulled out of this work, as I've read a couple of books by Llewellyn before. Nevertheless, it was worthwhile as a review.

About the Author
Linda Campbell has extensive experience at all levels of education, including as a former public school K-12 teacher and NEA school restructuring specialist, and currently as a professor of education at Antioch University Seattle. In addition to serving as the University’s project director for the Gates Foundation Early College Initiative for Native Youth, she is a consultant and a presenter. She also works with schools to promote the retention and achievement of Native American youth.

Bruce Campbell has over 30 years of experience at all levels of education and has authored numerous articles and books. As a classroom teacher, he developed a nationally acclaimed elementary model that integrated direct instruction, learning centers, and student projects on a daily basis. Campbell currently teaches high-needs students in the Marysville School District, where he also coaches educators new to the profession. He is a frequent speaker at national conferences and has consulted for governmental and educational agencies in all 50 states. Additionally, Campbell has taught educators in countries around the world. His areas of focus are ways to improve instruction and how to spark a love of learning among students of all ages.

About the Author
Leah M. Melber, Ph.D. has nearly 20 years experience within informal and formal science education. She holds a B.A. in Zoology, an M.A. in education together with a multiple subject teaching credential for the state of California, and a Ph.D. in educational psychology from the University of Southern California. She has presented widely on inquiry-based instruction and effective methods of connecting with cultural institutions such as museums. In addition to numerous journal articles she has written on this topic, she has recently published a book titled "Informal Learning and Field Trips". She was awarded the 2001 Informal Educator Award through the California Science Teachers Association. She joined the staff of Lincoln Park Zoo in December of 2008.

About the Author

Eric Jensen is a former teacher and current member of the Society for Neuroscience and New York Academy of Sciences. He has taught at all levels, from elementary through university level and is currently completing his PhD in human development. In 1981, Jensen cofounded SuperCamp, the nation’s first and largest brain-compatible learning program, now with over 50,000 graduates. This book kind of annoyed me. Too much sarcasm. When I'm trying to learn a subject that is difficult for me, sarcasm is not helpful.

Worthless Book

I know that my title may be harsh, but let me explain. First of all, I never really had to take statistic in undergraduate, so my familiarity is none. I am working on my doctorate and this was the book that was used. First of all, it needs updated badly. There is either information missing, wrong screen shots, or miscalculations. For someone that has never used SPSS or knows much about statistics, this book is just terrible. I think with some updates it could be a it more useful then it was for me.
