About the Author
Donna Walker Tileston is a veteran teacher and administrator. She is currently the president of Strategic Teaching and Learning, a consulting firm that provides services to schools throughout the United States and worldwide. Donna’s publications include Ten Best Teaching Practices: How Brain Research, Learning Styles, and Standards Define Teaching Competencies (2000), which has been on Corwin's bestseller list since its first year in print, in addition to the ten-volume award-winning series What Every Teacher Should Know, now in its second edition. Other recent titles are Teaching Strategies for Active Learning (2006), Teaching Strategies that Prepare Students for High Stakes Tests (2008), and Closing the Poverty and Culture Gap (2009). Donna received her BA from the University of North Texas, her MA from East Texas State University, and her EdD from Texas A & M University-Commerce. Demeaning to my intelligence

I was required to buy this book, as well as Tileston's books on Student Motivation and The Brain for a class in the psychology of learning. I found these books to be simplistic, lacking any real academic backing and citations. The applications and examples for the classroom were simplistic and obvious. The book was repetitive and demeaning to my intelligence. She somehow made an entire book out of what could easily be condensed into a short three page handout. She used all the same examples in all the books. None of these books are worth the money or the time. If you are required to buy these books, don't waste your time - read some peer-reviewed journals, think and make your own examples and applications in the classroom and you will have a much more enriching experience.

What a waste.

I'm sure that as a set these books are very helpful. But what I found is that I paid for this book only to have information I was covering in my classes thrown back to me. What a wasteful society we live in, why do professors rely so heavily on text books when most students don't even read them?

This book proposes that kids are failing in inner cities because of social injustice. I say nay nay! The problem is the irresponsible behavior in the homes! Money will not solve the problems in the schools!
